CANCER: The symptoms of spleen lymphoma

There are several types of lymphoma. Spleen lymphomas are part of non-Hodgkin lymphomas. They are quite rare, and mostly reach older people. They correspond to an anarchic multiplication of poorly developed B lymphocytes at the spleen level.

What are the symptoms of spleen lymphoma?
Spleen lymphoma is a very slow evolutionary cancer that gives little signs at first. When it evolves, spleen lymphoma causes a splenomegaly that corresponds to a large volume increase of the spleen: it then becomes palpable in the upper part of the abdomen. You can also see a lot of fatigue, slimming, unexplained fever and night sweats. The liver can also increase in volume. Anemia and a decrease in the number of platelets can accompany these signs, due to the dysfunction of the spleen.

What to do in the face of spleen lymphoma?
When spleen lymphoma is poorly evolved, treatment is not initially introduced, and simple monitoring is proposed. However, it must be very close together, although spleen lymphoma can remain very slowly evolving for several years. If the disease is more advanced and the spleen becomes too large and painful, then it can be removed surgically: it is the splenectomy. When surgery is not possible, radiotherapy or immunotherapy are treatments that can be effective.
